Project Background
A few years ago, the Town of Erie Town Council aimed to make 12% of housing affordable by 2035. According to Town Ordinance 017-2023, an Affordable Housing Project includes developments where 12% or more of the total residential units are deed-restricted. These units will be available for households with incomes at or below 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI). In 2023, the Town of Erie bought land at 755-765 Cheesman Street. This purchase marked the first step towards creating affordable housing options. The Cheesman Affordable Homeownership Development will consist entirely of for-sale deed-restricted homes.
The Town of Erie also plans to host a homebuyer education course in September 2024 and maintains a list of other approved homebuyer education courses in the area. Click here for more resources from the Town of Erie website.
